In 1912, Albert B. Pletsch, DVM graduated from Terre Haute Veterinary College. He returned home to begin practice serving the people and animals of the area. Most farm work was done with horses, and until tractors replaced horses, much of Dr. Pletsch’s time was spent treating them. By 1953, Dr. Pletsch was ready to slow down after 41 years by himself.
That year John Ehrhardt, DVM graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, purchased the practice, and moved his young family to McNabb. Dr. Pletsch continued to work with Dad for many years until he passed away in 1967. Dad continued the practice, focusing on farm animals and pets until 1984, when his son returned home after 18 months working in Alliance, Nebraska at The Animal Center. He had graduated from Illinois in 1983, thirty years behind his father, and was ready to return home. John M. McNabb & his wife Vicki purchased the practice from his father, and they worked together for the next 15 years until John Sr. passed away in March of 1999. In 2001, an expansion project was completed that tripled the size of the patient care area.
The practice was sold to Dr. Allison Spayer in December 2010. Dr. Spayer received her Animal Science degree in 1999, and her DVM degree in 2008 from the University of IL. Dr. Spayer brings a new generation of medical skills and compassionate care for pets in a family friendly environment.
